I would like to thank all the participants, fans and supporters of Valmiera Marathon 2008! My special thanks to Vilnis Priedītis - it was his idea to revive the Valmiera Marathon - and to SIA ”Sportlat” for their contribution!
Valmiera Marathon 2008 will remain in our memory as a sports event with a record number of participants and sports fans and results. We are glad that sports enthusiasts from so many places in Latvia and from so many European countries visited our town during this event, and we are proud to say that Valmiera Marathon has enriched the sports life of Valmiera.
During the event we have signed an agreement on organising the Valmiera Marathon until 2013, every year in autumn, always in the very heart of Valmiera! And we do hope that Valmiera Marathon will grow and will become a sports landmark by which our town will be recognised in Latvia, in the Baltic states and in Europe.
See you all next autumn at Valmiera Marathon 2009!

Valmiera Marathon 2008, which took place on 28 September 2008, has been a success as one of the very few Latvian marathons capable of attracting large numbers of sports enthusiasts. Moreover - Valmiera Marathon 2008 has proved that Valmiera, which is one of the most beautiful towns in Latvia, can revive sports traditions, at the same time attracting healthy life-style fans not only from Valmiera and Latvia, but also internationally. The participants of Valmiera Marathon 2008 included more than 1000 competitors from more than 10 different countries. I am particularly pleased that this sports event helped to raise funds for the poor families of Valmiera, because thanks to the large numbers of participants and sports fans kindness we all have been able to provide valuable financial support to Valmiera Soup Kitchen for Children. I invite you to cherish and further develop this sense if unity and hope to see you at Valmiera Marathon 2009!
